screenshot of Websafe Colour Tool

It’s quite a headache to find out that after spending a lot of time deciding what your site’s colors will be, that they may not show properly on some systems. This happens when the system does not recognize the color value and can often result into undesired dithering. So how can you be sure then that your chosen color will be displayed correctly on different systems? That’s where WebMaster Toolkit’s free Websafe Colour Tool comes in.

The tool allows you to get the nearest match of your chosen color using the 216 websafe color palette. With this tool, you can check whether your chosen color will display correctly on computers running a 256 color palette. It ensures that the colors you have chosen or would choose for your site will be consistent when displayed on any browser or system. Using it is as simple as keying in your chosen color value. If the chosen color is a websafe color, it will return the same value. If not, it provides you with the color value of its nearest match.

By knowing what colors are considered web safe, you are sure that your web pages will show off their true colors.

Knowledge of the hexadecimal values of colors is needed to make use of the tool. Basic HTML is also needed to apply the colors provided by the tool to your web pages.

Good news for keyword research fanatics - John Alexander is offering a free download of his ebook, Wordtracker Magic as a promotional giveaway before the launch of the 2008 version. You have to subscribe to the mailing list to get the ebook, but the mailing list itself offers free SEO tips everyday.

Wordtracker Magic is no-nonsense and straightforward. He explains basic keyword research concepts and their application to Wordtracker. Of course, the ebook also covers a variety of keyword research tips and techniques supplemented by screenshots and clear instructions.

Alexander’s approach is easy-to-understand for Wordtracker newbies, but the ebook’s audience is not limited to that. If you’re an experienced WordTracker user, you might be surprised to find out a lot of tips and techniques you didn’t know about. The instructions in the ebook may be specific to Wordtracker users, but several of Alexander’s ideas are applicable regardless of the keyword research tool you use.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view the ebook. The free download offer is up to October 31, 2007 only.

Are crossword puzzles part of your plan for success?

Earlier we featured a site full of free Flash games. If you read this blog faithfully, by now you should know that free games embedded on your web site can drive traffic, and lots of it. Looking for more addicting games? Here’s another site to enhance your menu, and it specializes in a widely popular word puzzle: crosswords.

JustCrosswords.com is a database of 15×15 black-and-white square puzzles. The design is simple and efficient - reminiscent of the old newspaper crosswords. The crossword list is organized by categories, among which are anagrams, astronomy, football, movies, music, and history. Pick a puzzle in any category and you’ll be greeted by a very intuitive Flash game. All crosswords have a timer so you can monitor your pace. Each also has a progress meter that tells you the puzzle’s percentage of completion (i.e. words you’ve solved divided by the total number of words). If you’re having a hard time or just in a hurry, you can ask it to reveal a clue, a letter, or even the whole word. This classic is still an enjoyable game to play, making it a great way to let visitors stay on your site for longer periods of time.

You can generate your own crosswords by adding your selection of words into the puzzles. The site has a generator which will automatically find of the optimal position of the words inside the square. Publish your game and embed it in your web site, or brag about your creation with an email to your friends.

Just like any other Flash game, it requires the latest Flash Player plugin.
